Objective: The aim of the present study is to investigate the effect of traditional Chinese medicine on vascular smooth muscle cell (VSMC) proliferation and apoptosis in rabbit after endarterium injury. Methods: Thirty healthy New Zealand rabbits were randomly divided into normal group, model group, western medicine (Fluvastatin) control group and traditional Chinese medicine treatment Group. There are six rabbits in the normal group and eight rabbits in each of the rest three groups. Through feeding rabbit on high dosage of cholesterol diet along with endarterium denudation, rabbits endarterium-injured and 14 days after the operation, blood was collected and lower segment of abdominal aorta were taken for observation. Morphology of Vascular smooth muscle cell (VSMC) was observed under the optical microscope and electron microscope. Automatic Biochemical Analyzer with Enzymes Methods was utilized to observe Cholesterol (CHOL), Triglyceride (TG), High-density lipoprotein (HDL), and Low-density lipoprotein (LDL). Reversetranscription-polymerase chain reation (RT-PCR) method is used for the observing the level of c-myc and platelet derived growth factor-BB(PDGF-BB). The level of Insulin-like growth factor-1 (IGF-1) and apoptosis index was collected by immunohisto chemistry. Results: Under the optical microscope and electron microscope, there was no proliferation found in the VSMCs in the normal group and VSMCs...
