Traditional Chinese medicine is an analytical system with too much complexity. The pharmaceutical activity of traditional Chinese medicine comes from the international of all the chemical components in it. Some problems become bottleneck in the process of traditional Chinese medicine modernization, such as unstable medicine effect, under-developed check methods and primal extract ways. In a word, they are problems about chemical analysis of traditional Chinese medicine. Fortunately, some technology has given birth to world and has been developing quickly, such as technology of fingerprint, technology of chromatography combined with other spectrums, technology of supercritical CO2 extraction. And they are key technology, as is also significant to modernize traditional Chinese medicine.Firstly, the fingerprint of essential oils of Pogostemon cablin (Blanco) Benth from different culture varieties was studied by capillary gas chromatography, then it was compared and analyzed by means of 2 methods (the fingerprint methods of Strong Eight Peaks and Dividing Sections). As was shown in result, the fingerprint of Pogostemon cablin (Blanco) Benth from different culture varieties had some similarities while they had some differences. The similarities were demonstrated as follows: all peaks were stable and the numbers of peaks were the same in each dividing section of the fingerprint; there were 5 common peaks which were parts of Strong Eight Peaks in 12 samples; every reference peak was the most intensive one of Strong Eight Peaks in each sample. The differences were demonstrated as follows: the peak shape and the relative peak area of characteristic peaks were different in each dividing section of the fingerprint; the 19th and 20th peak were the unique ones of Strong Eight Peaks in P. cablin (Blanco) Benth. cv. Zhangjiangensis; the 14th and 17th peak were the unique ones of Strong Eight Peaks in P. cablin (Blanco) Benth. cv. Shipaiensis. The same conclusion could be drawn by means of the fingerprint methods of Strong Eight Peaks and Dividing Sections.Secondly, the volatile constitutions of Fructus Amomi Rotundus and its confused samples were analyzed by gas chromatography - mass spectroscopy (GC-MS). As was shown in result, the chemical constitutions of Fructus Amomi Rotundus were distinctly different from other 3 samples; therefore, it couldn't be replaced with them at will. On the other hand, the volatile constitutions of A. villosum, A. villosum var xanthioides, A. xanthioides Wall. were analyzed by GC-MS. 36, 44 and 45 compounds were identified respectively and their relative contents were determined by peak area integration method. As was shown in result, the quality of A. villosum was the best, therefore, it couldn't be replaced with other 2 samples. And the quality of A. villosum vat xanthioides was very dose to A. xanthioides Wall. We proposed that we should add two factors as quality standard in Pharmacopoepeia of the people's Republic of China, including the relative content of bornyl acetate and camphor, so that we could evaluate their quality and guide how to use these medicine more precisely. Finally, the chemical substances of Radix Angelicae Sinensis were extracted by steam distillation and supercritical CO2 extraction, and analyzed by combined capillary gas chromatography- mass spectrometry. As was shown in result, supercritical CO2 extraction method took less time but had higher extracting rate, and it had better selectivity to the effective substances, including ligustilide and ferulic acid; therefore, the products could be of more stable quality and ensure better pharmacody and clinic effect. Under the modern big production conditions, it is really an effective method to extract pharmic substances.
