Using Midazolam Continuous Infusion Of Conscious Sedation To Control Clinical Study Of Wisdom Tooth Extraction Surgery In Dental Fear

Objective To evaluate the safety, effectiveness and practicability of conscioussedation of midazolam intravenous continuous infusion in controlling dental anxietyin the mandibular third molar extraction.Methods 20 patients, who will receive the mandibular third molar extractionwere enrolled in this research. All the patients were ASAⅠand had no related systemdisease or drug abuse history. A self-compared method was used. Each patient firstreceived the operation under local anesthesia delivered by a computer controlledinjection system to remove one molar as the control group. In the second operation(intervention group), the opposite molar was removed under conscious sedationproduced by intravenous continuous infusion of midazolam. The vital signs, Ramsayscore, co-operation score and midazolam dose, recovery period, amnesia andsatisfactory rate of both groups were noted and analyzed by SPSS.Results Totally 16 patients completed all the treatment. The mean age were29.88±7.01y, mean weight 60.81±11.09kg, mean DAS score 14.00±1.21.Patients inintervention group received a midazolam dose of 8.44±2.82mg, and mean recoveryperiod was 16.75±13.05min.There were obvious differences between the two groupsfor HR, Bp, oxygen saturation, Ramsay scores and co-operation scores and there wassome correlation between the midazolam dose and recovery period in the interventiongroup. After all the operations were performed, more patients(81.25%) preferred theⅣconscious sedation technique.Conclusions To control the dental anxiety and increase the co-operation level ofpatients, it is safe, effective and practical to useⅣinfusion midazolam as conscioussedation in the mandibular third molar extraction operation in the dental clinic.
