Object: With the development of people's living condition in our country, the nutrition knowledge and nutritional-assessment service is a hot and important issue in China. And the prevalent of the computer and internet practicing cause to the new thought of the nutrition subject. As the naissance of nutritional software, more and more people pay attention to their own nutrition condition and the public nutrition condition. All people focus on the problem that how to achieve the individual nutrition condition more easily and get into a good food-habit which associated with a standard nutrition-assessment. This research base on the abundant information of nutrition, with the clear nutritional information disposal, result in a complex nutrition software system with the functions which include nutrition-assessment, nutrition food choice, Chinese food habit assistant and Chinese food knowledge advice.Methods: Based on the Chinese nutritional standard such as Chinese food constituent table and DRIs table or other nutritional standard. Microsoft Access 2003 is used to be the main database builder software assistant. The version of this nutrition-assessment software system is NAS v1.0. Using the table's designer of Microsoft Access 2003, a complicated database base on Access had been built which including more than 2000 bars variable and focusing on the several big sorts such as clinic normal index, Chinese food sorts and Chinese meal sorts et al; The software is made by Visual Basic 6.0 . By the system model changing and writing the model data code, and using the ADO technique to combine with the Microsoft Access 2003 database, and using table query and SQL language's database query function, designing more than 17 different sorts and 200 bars query fields to running database query. Also system can finished the simple choice and simple rally based on the different traits and functions of the database. Besides, tool software Crystal Report9 and Visual Basic's report designer can be used to build various reports showing the nutrition information. And this information can be exported by Excel Acrobat Format (PDF), Text format.Results: The System passed the tough test by the program of Visual Basic6.0 package test tool. The whole system includes 4 main parts as follow: patient information import, nutrition-assessment, food choice and food habit forming and Chinese food knowledge assistant system. It's completed by 20 Visual Basic project windows, 3 big databases, 18 second system database table and over 2000 variables. The user can detected their clinic nutrition index, body test index and other nutritional index by the system and receive a comprehensive report about their own instantaneously. The user also can be deposited the nutrition-related information to the particular database. Besides, the different report table is made for the Crystal Report9 tool. The food choice can be help by the Chinese food choice information and knowledge. The food constituent computer help to finishing the food table completed. Other operation such as patient information sorting, personal nutrition-assessment and individual food table for a week or a day can be exported by several report table format such as Word, Excel Acrobat Format (PDF), Text and Excel 97-2000. And it will make the information revolving to the user more convenient.Conclusions: This research finished a general nutrition-assessment system for the future users. It based on the complex function systems such as patient information management, nutrition-assessment, food choice and Chinese food habit knowledge assistant. And it is build by a thought across the eastern and western culture. It changes the fact that the old nutrition software always focused on the aspects of the food choice and reflected some simple population's nutrition conditions. Besides, our system also has abundant data querying functions. The querying functions provide more information about the users' nutrition data whatever their need. And the various tables report also a major trait of this software system, it made this system more practicing, safety, and inside data scientific. The nutrition software can be used in different fields such as clinic nutrition support, teach nutrition in school, personal food choice assistant, public nutrition teaching and nutrition intervene in the big sample population.
