The etiopathogenisis and pathology changes of this deformity are still unkown until rensentlly.Normally regard The cause of the hallux valgus have both of intrinsic and extrinsic.The intrinsic cause developed through the extrinsic cause. Heredity, some foot abnormal structures and some rheumatic disorders are all common intrinsic causes. Weight bearing and compression of shoe are common extrinsic causes. With the development of deformity, a series of pathology of great toe will appear. Realizing the pathology change will be important to treat hallux valgus.the author overviewed the articles which are research on the etiopathogenisis and pathology change of the hallux valgus hoping for conducing to the realize of this deformity and the improvement of its treatment.
