Renaissance European And Chinese Herbal Thought A Comparative Study

As the culture and science communication between the domestic and overseas is increasing day by day in recent years, so too is the regard on the comparative study between Chinese traditional medicine and western medicine. Both the domestic and overseas researchers deeply explored these two medicine systems from the history, philosophy, medical thinking model and got a lot of important progress, which played an important role in the communication of the two medicine systems. However, the volume of research on the comparative study between Chinese herbalism and western herbalism is very limited. Based on the present literature in this field, this article outlines the ideology development of each herbalism system so that it can help to fill up some blank areas in this field, support the future study and facilitate the understanding for each culture to the other.This article uses research designs in philology and comparative historiographies, analyze representative works in each development stage for each herb medicine system, and summarize ideology characteristics of each stage. What's more, both longitudinal and latitudinal comparative analysis can be found in this article.Starting with the research on the differences of idealistic development of herbalism in the renaissance, this article includes comparison on the properties and dosages of herbs, the chemistry and pharmacology of drugs and so on, and analysis on the reasons for the difference between the two regions.Though the research above, the article presents the conclusion that the main idealistic difference between the two herb medicine systems during the renaissance is caused by the difference of medicine philosophy, thinking pattern and the development process of the materia medica between the Europe and China.
