Acanthaceae Chemical Composition Study

Rostellularia procumbens L.(Acanthaceae),known as "Juechuang" in Chinese, is a commonly used traditional Chinese medicine and has clinical effects of reducing fire,removing toxic heat and promoting digestion.It has been used to treat cold,fever, inflammation of the throat and indigestion in children and as the one of the main ingredient in the preparation of Jian-er syrup.In our investigation,18 compounds were isolated from the herbs of Rostellularia procumbens(Linn.) Nees with silica gel,ODS,sephadex-LH-20,preparative HPLC, etc.Among them,17 compounds were elucidated on the basis of chemical and spectral evidence.Three of them were new compounds.They were named as Neojusticin C(YA10),Procumbenoside C(YE1),Procumbenoside D(YE2), respectively.Two of these compounds were first isolated from this plant.They were Phathalic acid his(2-methylpropgl) ester(YA5) and Uracil(YE4).The other compounds were Chinensinaphthol methyl ether A(YA1),Taiwanin C(YA2), 4'-demethylchinensinaphthol methyl ether(YA7),Neojusticin A(YB1), Chinensinaphthol(YB2),Taiwan E(YB3),6'-hydroxy justicidin B(YC1),6'-hydroxy justicidin A(YC2),Diphyllin-1-O-β-D-Apiofuranoside(YD1),Justicidinoside C(YES),Justicidinoside B(YE6),β-sitosterol(YA9),respectively.
