Different Acupuncture Points Group Treatment Of Perimenopausal Obesity Clinical Observation

Background:Obesity is a chronic disease relating to metabolism.It is estimated by the WTO that this disease is the current leading disease with a sharp-increasing morbidity and prone to be neglected by the public.Obesity also induces hypertension,coronary heart disease,hyperlipidaemia and some other disease.It even can cause cancer,affect human health both mentally and psychologically,weaken the resistance of the body and raise the mortality.Perimenopausal syndrome which is concomitant with obesity in women has already become a clinically common disease with a year by year increasing morbidity.At present,although the effect of acupuncture on obesity and perimenopausal syndrome has been confirmed,there is a short of strict clinical literatures for randomized controlled trial(RCT) of acupuncture therapy in China.Based on the long period of clinical experience and the previous research provided by Qiaoling Bo,the associate chief physician in Guanganmen hospital,this research seeks for a acupuncture therapy with good clinical effects on perimenopausal syndrome which is concomitant with obesity,and provide a reference to optimize the clinical acupuncture therapy.Objective:Observe and evaluate effects of two different acupuncture therapy.Adopt different acupuncture points on curing perimenopausal syndrome which is concomitant with obesity.Methods:Adopt Randomized controlled trial(RCT) to do the research.Between June,2008 and December,2008,among the patient treated by Qiaoling Bo,the associate chief physician in Guanganmen hospital,12 cases of patients are qualified.They are separated into two groups with 6 cases each,treating by abdominal needle therapy and back shu points therapy.The abdominal needle therapy makes the main acupuncture points as these Zhongwan(CV12),Xiangwan(CV10),Tianshu(ST25), Huangshu(KI16),Shuifeng(CV9),Qihai(CV6) etc.The back shu points therapy makes the main acupuncture points as these: Dangchangshu(BL25),Xinshu(BL15),Shenshu(BL23),Pishu(BL20), Ganshu(BL18) etc.The operation method is illustrated as follows, after disinfecting the main acupuncture points,the 0.30*40mm stainless needles are used to do the acupuncture.Each acupuncture point has a needle insertion around 15-20mm,both sides of Tianshu(ST25) and Dangchangshu(BL25) acupuncture points are connected to the needle handle,which is connected to G-6805 electropuncture.The frequency is set to 2Hz,while.the persistent wave and the strength is limited to the degree that the patient can feel his muscle slightly trembled,25minutes is needed when retaining needle,and the treatment is taken with 1 time each day and 3 times every week.The period of treatment lasts for 4 weeks.The staged quantified standard adopt the Kupperman scorechart and Self-Rating Anxiety Scale(SAS),which are internationally recognized to describe and measure the symptoms of women in perimenopausal period.The patient gives self-ranking after 2weeks treatment and 4weeks treatment.Any adverse reaction is recorded during the treatment.Results:12 cases of the illness take part in the randomized trial,finished the treatment,and no fall off case.The group using abdominal needle therapy makes change as follows,weight is 75.00±16.876 originally,71.92±16.645 afterwards;the waistline is 88.83±10.496 originally,87.17±10.610 afterwards;the hip circumference is 98.67±13.049 originally,97.00±12.977 afterwards;Sebum content is 36.867±4.0013 originally,35.38±4.387 afterwards;Kupperman index is 23.83±5.193 originally,21.33±4.761 afterwards;SAS index is 46.83±5.707 originally,43.83±7.223 afterwards.Each index indicate significant difference in the group(P＜0.05).The group using back shu points therapy makes changes as follows:weight is 82.83±19.954 originally,81.17±20.134 afterwards;the waistline is 94.83±16.068 originally,92.67±16.120 afterwards; the hip circumference is 104.33±16.232 originally,102.33±16.269 afterwards;Sebum content is 36.317±4.7814 originally,34.30±4.205 afterwards;Kupperman index is 28.50±6.442 originally,25.33±6.563 afterwards;SAS index is 53.17±9.131 originally,47.67±9.564 afterwards.Each index indicates significant difference in the group(P＜0.05).The result indicates different acupuncture method all have significant improvement on patient's each index,the therapeutic effect is quite good.Comparing the two group's improvement,each index shows no statistical difference(P＞0.01), it is accomplished that using acupuncture on two different point group to cure perimenopausal syndrome has no significant difference.Conclusions:1 The method of using acupuncture on two different point group to cure perimenopausal syndrome caused by obesity,can effectively decrease patient's obesity index,Kupperman index and SAS index.It is accomplished that using acupuncture on two different point groups to cure perimenopausal syndrome has no significant difference.It is suggested that during the clinical treatment,using acupuncture on two different point group is effective and they are non-specific.2 No fall off case detected during the trial,and no severe adverse reaction is noticed.These results indicate that it is quite acceptable for the patient to take on the treatment of two different acupuncture point and the treatment is safe.
