In this research 7 compounds were isolated from the extract of Centella asiatica by modern technologies of extraction, isolation, purification, identification, such as silica gel-column chromatography, sephadex LH-20 and re-crystal.The structures of 6 compounds have been established and identified on the basis of physico-chemical and spectrographic evidence. They were the asiatic acid (Ⅰ), 6β-OH-hydroxyasiatic acid (Ⅱ), 2α,3β,23α-tetrahydroxyurs- 12-ene-28-oic acid-28-O-β-D-glucopyranoside (Ⅲ), asiaticodiglycoside (Ⅳ), asiaticoside (Ⅴ),α-L-rhamnose(Ⅵ). CompoundsⅢwere isolated from this herb and this family for the first time. CompoundsⅥwere isolated from this herb for the first time. The optimum extraction conditions of Centella asiatica were determined by the orthogonal test and the content of total saponins with asiaticoside as index was detected by UV spectrophotometry. This article using a kind of active microbial strains which was isolated from soils cultivated ginseng and was identified as Fusarium sacchar to transform asiaticoside. Through analysis by TLC and HPLC and prep-HPLC obtained 2α,3β,23α-tetrahydroxyurs-12-ene-28-oic acid-28-O-β-D-glucopyranoside and Asiatic -acid. Through the pharmacological experiments in vitro the results proved that asiatic acid exhibit anticancer activity to some extent.
