Objective:To observe the protective effect of methylprednisolone(MP) on myocardial injuries induced by TNF-αand IL-8 from ischemia reperfusion in patients under going open heart surgery.Methods:30 patients were randomly divided into control group(n=15) and treatment group(n= 15).Patients in treatment group were given MP 30 mg/kg int ravenously 20 minutes prior to occlusion of the aorta while those in control group received the same volume of balanced saline. Plasma levels of TNF-α,IL-8,creatine phosphor kinase(CPK) and lactate dehydrogenase (LDH) were measured before the occlusion of aorta,15 minutes of occlusion and 15 m inutes after release, respectively. Results:There was no significant difference in all parameters studied between two groups befo re clamping of aorta.During myocardial ischemia reperfusion, plasma levels of TNF-α,IL-8, CPK and LDH were much higher. In control group than those in treatment group(P < 0.05 or P < 0.001).Conclusions:MP could effectively attenuate lip id peroxidation and protect myocardium from ischemia and ischemia reperfusion by reducing tissue product ion of TNF-αand IL-8.
