Proud To Re-shape

The Song Dynasty Imperial Art Academy revolutionized the field of 'Birds and Flowers'Paintings. Its artistic conception and refined shape have reached unprecedented heights."Essence" has always been one of the most important elements of Chinese painting, whereas "Shape" was considered secondary. However, The Song Dynasty Imperial Art Academy made a prominent contribution by placing "Essence" and "Shape" in the limelight. Artists attach great importance to concepts, feelings, artistic theories and laws of nature. They express nature subjectively and conceptually instead of merely reproducing nature perse.This thesis provides an overview of the development of Song Dynasty Imperial Art and the reasons that influenced the concept of "Leveling Essence and Shape". It also analyses the factors for the relationship between "Essence" and "Shape" by jointly focusing on "Magpies and Hare" "Lotus Pheasant"and "Lotus inBloom " paintings. As a result, based on the above, I will study the "Essence-Shape Concept" of the Song Dynasty Imperial Art Academy.The " Leveling sence-Shape " conceptualization has immensely influenced later generations of the "Birds and Flowers" art schools. Finally, my paper will discuss the influence of the above-mentioned factors and studies in guiding "Birds and Flowers" artists during their process of inspirational creation of contemporary art pieces.
