Decorative motifs fall into the broad category of visual images, which cover not only those images that are reproductive and easily distributable, but also drawings and all other forms of visual artifacts. For a long time, because decorative motifs have always appeared as adjunct characters, their inner meaning and strength are often forgotten. Decorative motifs share the same origins with drawing, both of them were first created by hands. Because of the difference in function and means of expression, decorative motifs and drawing diverted eventually. Decorative motifs, which have since become an independent art language, embodied a creator's abstract expression of visual images and reflected his or her pursuit of beauty. Accordingly, I am more inclined to appreciate decorative motifs by observing them as if reading a story whenever I study decorative motifs. In today's image oriented modern society, all forms of vivid visual images have challenged drawing its prominent rank in visual arts. Borrowing certain aspects of Photos and other forms of visual images has become inevitable when one does drawing. Maintaining the essence of drawing is the key for drawing to continue to dominate its prominent rank in visual arts. In order for drawing to lead its prominent role in visual arts, continuance of developing new techniques in drawing is a must. The art history from different countries shows that each nascent medium in visual arts became prominent only as a result of artists' continuance of development and enhancement in that art medium. Hence, facing to a world that is full of rich means of visual images, each drawing artist who wants to succeed in visual arts is to continue to develop new techniques in drawing, the only path to succeed in his or her art career.Re-utilizing decorative motifs in drawing is what 1 have discovered to be the most suitable way to express my ideas and emotion when I draw. In my thesis,I intend to analyze the techniques in both decorative motifs and drawing by comparing their unique and similar characteristics, respectively, with one another, and to explore the possibility of whether decorative motifs will become a drawing language in today's image time.
