Content-based instruction (CBI) is a method of teaching foreign language that through content, it integrates content and language and changes the way of traditional language teaching which focus on the forms. Since it comes out, it has gains a lot of popularity and support, and proved to be very effective, especially in the teaching of ESL (English as second language). However, in Chinese as second language teaching, it has not received enough attention, though there are some researches of it, but little application.The name of curriculum is "Chinese historical personage and idioms", which is about learning meaning and uses of idioms and life of historical personage by learning story of idiom. And the students can also train their language skills in the class. The curriculum tries to integrate the idioms and historical personage together, and implore the proper way of CBI in the Chinese-teaching as second/foreign language.First, the writer try to explore the idiom and Chinese traditional culture leaning needs of the students, then decide what to teach and the right way to integrate language and content, and design the teaching plan. At last, the writer practices the curriculum in a class, and found some problems of the curriculum. According to the practice, I modify some of it in order to improve it.CBI can fulfill many different conditions for second/foreign language acquisition. The curriculum not only tries to incorporate CBI into Chinese-teaching as foreign language, but also it wants to find new way of language teaching and culture teaching.
