The reason that Emperor Yandi of the Sui Dynast failed in conquering Gaoli state (oldname for Korea) three times and that Emperor Gaozong of the Tang Dpoasty's attempted toconquer it in the l9~(th) year of Zheng Guan reign (omens of good) ended up in failure apain, isbecause the particularly climate and environment in East Liao area, Which restricted the offensiveof Tang (Sui) army. It was also because Emperos Taizong and Gaozong of the Tang Dynastycame to realize the point that they changed the policy toward Korea Peninsula into SupportingXinluo state, wiping out Baiji state(president-day part of Korea)and, surrounding and then wipingout Gaoli state(president-dny part of Korea). The reason that the Tang anny defeated in the war is that the bad transportation of armyprovisions resulted from cold climate, the inexact use of navy, and the effechve tactics of Gaolistate. Thus, the Tang rulers began to change the tactics in the following three aspects. First, theyadapted the war of attribution, fighting against Gaoli state with nahonal power. Secondly, Tangstrengthened the union with Xinluo state to attack Gaoli state from both north and soutli, and soxviping out Baiji state was the key in the linked succession. Thirly, the navy became themajor force in the war of attribution. It arrived by sea, which solved the problem of the difficultyin transport of army provisions, and made the advantages of the environment of Gaoli statemeaningless, and thus in turn made the state at the end of its tether.Tang army took the advantage of the internal conflict of Gaoli state, conquered it in the end.The downfall of Gaoli state changed the situations in East Asia and, therefore, stimulated thespread of Tang Culture there.
