| Xi'an Incident changed the course of the Chinese history in which General Yang Hu-cheng played a significant role. The topic of Yang Hu-cheng and the Xi'an Incident enjoys much academic value and historic significance in modern Chinese History. The author aims to show the role he played in this historic event through his performance throughout the event.The article consists of three parts. The first part deals with Yang Hu-cheng's patriotic thought and the relationship between him and the CPC, Chang Hseuh-liang and Chiang Kai-shek in order to show his anti-Japanese and patriotic thought. The second part analyses the role Yang plays in the Xi'an Incident including the advocating of the military proposal, the preparation for capturing Chiang Kai-shek, his cooperation in capturing Chiang in Lingtong , and his effort in bringing about a peaceful settlement of the incident.The last chapter discusses his role in the post-incident period to give an overall picture of the general.Through research and thought, two points can be drawn from the incident. First, regional cooperation could be an impetus to overall cooperation. Second, belief is the spiritual thing a nation depends on for survival. |
