In the long period, for the most researchers in educational circles, Puritanism is the soul of the American culture. In the tracing of the source of the American spirit, the continuous understanding to the puritan emergence and development is required. In 1620-1640, the puritans, who affected much to English society, could not bear the coercion, and began to immigrate for looking for a "God City" which could realize their religious ideal. Puritanism shaped in England was fused with the American reality. Puritanism became the mainstream of Protestantism, and played a very important role in politics, economy, culture, and so on, in the early colonial period even afterward. This thesis pitches the time on the early colonial period, makes the process of the transplantation and changes of Puritanism from England to North America as the masterstroke, employs the way of history and research in religion, and exhibits a vivid historical picture of the puritan origin. It will not only embody its inheritance, but its application in the realistic life in North America.Except prologue and conclusion, the main text is composed of three parts:First part, the English puritan origin of North America, which concludes three aspects. That is, the definition to Puritanism and the advance of the puritans; the activities of puritans in England and the royal attitude to them; and the great immigration of the puritans.Second part, the effect of the Puritanism in the early colonial period, which contains four aspects. Including, contact梩he footstone of Protestant belief; politics梩he theocracy of syncretism of politics and religion; economy梩he profit pursue of the new class; culture梩he mainstream of Protestantism.Third part, the effect and value of Puritanism in North America, whichcomprises two aspects. Namely, the effect of Puritanism in North America and the value of Puritanism in North America.
