The essence of this study focused on three important factors rbasic language level and reading comprehension monitoring ability and working memory capacity, which have important influences on Chinese college student when the Chinese student are taking multiple-choice tests of English reading comprehension. The relationships among the three factors can be found, which is another goal for us. Participants firstly take the test about its basic language level-grammar and Vocabulary, and then finish a set of standard English reading comprehension test in which the subjects are required to respond to each question and access its accuracy that they considered, hi the end, By using reading span task , the subjects are assessed then* working memory capacity. The study showed that: 1 .The basic language level and reading comprehension monitoring ability and working memory capacity all have significant positive correlation which supported that the there are close relationships between the three factors and the English reading comprehension. The basic language level and working memory capacity are both important and sensitive predictors. This showed that they have important influence on the reading comprehension and can help the students to finish the comprehension task successfully ; 2. We compared the partial correlation among the three factors and found that there is the closest relation between the working memory capacity and English reading comprehension. Then we compared the three factors and found that the working memory capacity had highest predictive power. We propose that increasing reading comprehension level by using sentence as the basic processing unit is the key method. 3.The integration between the low level language processing and the high level language processing can help the students to achieve better performance , of which function can not be ignored.
