Transforming Society The Dominant Values

At present, our country is in the process of social transformation. The system of planned economy is being transformed into the system of socialist market economy. During this process, the transformation of economic systems has brought about division and reorganization of interests in our society, which has caused considerable changes in economy, politics, culture and other fields of our society. Value ideas, which are the core of a culture, are undergoing great changes accordingly. Hence, value ideas of our present society exhibit unprecedented characteristics.After our country became a member of World Trade Organization, the principal views of value of our society during the period of planned economy have been challenged greatly in many fields and do not suit the needs of modernization and the construction of socialist market economy. This has caused conflicts in values, led to the difficulty in people's creation, choice and evaluation of values and has become unfavorable for the stable and healthy development of our country. Only by reestablishing new principal views of value of our society can we push forward the transformation of the former principal views of value and thus promote the healthy development of socialism with Chinese characteristics.This thesis analyzes the situation of value ideas during the period of social transformation, the characteristics of the principal views of value of our society during the period of planned economy and the challenges they have met with. On the basis of this analysis, guided by the value ideas of Marxism and Deng Xiaoping Theory, the author puts forward the new, 21st -century oriented system of the principal views of value of our society by way of carrying forward the cream of our national culture and using the cream of western culture for reference. These new principal views of value are made up of value ideas in economy, politics, culture and human.
