"Shuo Wen Ju Don " is the important work by Wang Yun who lived in Qing dynasty. There are not so many special comments on it up to now. The contents, styles, features, achievements and the failures of the work are discussed in the thesis from three aspects of font, pronunciation and meaning, emphasizing on the contributions to the research of ancient Chinese character and grammar, so that we can find the viewpoints of Wang Yun's linguistics.The first part of the thesis is the introduction which describes Wang Yun's life, works and the status of his "Shuo Wen Ju Don". The second part is the explanation of its contents from the font, pronunciation and the meaning, which is the most important part of the thesis. The third part is about the ways of explanation, such as explaining the meaning through the font, synonyms, the order of the character in the work, homophone and analogy among different parts. The fourth part is the explanation features of the work, which is based on the explaining of pronunciation and meaning through dialects and the utilization of ancient Chinese character materials. The fifth part is about the achievement of the work, including the contribution to the grammar research, the attention paid to the philology and the adjustment of its stylistic. Wang Yun's statements about the analysis of Dongjing-zi, adjective, Qubie-ci and grammar are involved in the thesis. Some failure points, such as the omission of the using the words of Han dynasty and misunderstanding the purpose of the work "Shuo Wen " by Xu Shen, are pointed out in the final part.An objective comment is given to Wang Yun and his work through the analysis above.
