Li Dazhao Culture Thought

On the development of Li Dazhao's cultural thoughts, I think, it can be divided into three periods.The early phase of his thoughts was before July,1918. Began with nationalism, with the theory of evolution, western democracy, freedom and the Chinese traditional dialectics as the weapons, Mr Li initiated the ideal of "the creation of the young china". The main point was the criticism to the thoughts of "respecting Confucian and returning to the old age" and famed a kind of cultural concept with the core of reconciliation during the dispute between western and eastern culture. The unique characters and elements became the inner cause which stimulated him to propose Marxism.From July. 1918, began with "the comparision between the Revolutions in France and Russia", Mr.Li's thoughts began to change.He began to throw away the western culture and turn to Russia. It was the publication of the two "victory" that showed he recognized the cultural trend of the 20th century-Marxism through the Tenth Revolution. The cultural ideal of "the creation of the child china" he proposed showed that he began to notice the importance of material reform and, in fact, turn to the Historical Materialism, though, with the foundation of dualism. His participating in the dispute of "problem and doctrine" was to defend his own cultural concept through Marxism rather than to defend Marxism. But the use of the basic theory of Marxism, esp. the Historical materialism, showed that the transformation of his cultural thoughts had nearly finished. The publication of "My View of Marxism" became the sigh of the foundation of Mr Li's Historical Materialism thoughts and showed that the final change had come.The later phase of Mr Li's cultural thoughts was after the end of 1919. During this period, with the means of basic theory of Historical Materialism , Mr Li criticized the feudalism culture and the cultural invasion of imperialism thoroughly, to show that the new culture was the output of the new economy and was an irreversible historical current. Within this time, he mainly took part in the revolutionary activities, so didn't give more attention to the construction of the new socialism culture. But, with the criticism to the culture of feudalism and imperialism and the scientific idea of the new culture, Mr Li made the way for the construction of the New Democracy Culture lately.
