| Yu DaFu is a romanticism writer in the Chinese modern period. He has wide knowledge of Chinese traditional and foreign literary. His work is consist of various fields, such as, novels, verses, and translation. His most successful work field is, with no doubt, novels which is written in biographical style among them. His novels with keen sensitiveness not only re-appear author's life which is destroyed and wounded and struggling with outside world, but also purchase for human reality. His novels are very attractive in the Chinese literary history. How his characteristic novels are performed? Many people discuss on this matter. They think that the influence of foreign literary is a must for his producing novels. In 1913, he went abroad to Japan with his big brother, Yu ManTuo. He lived there nearly for ten years. In this period, he read so many foreign books, such as Russian, Dutch, English, Japanese, and French novels and its literary theories. It led him to the literary world. It is thought that the most influential literary among them is the Japanese ones by many researchers. In his abroad period, nearly about 1,000 Japanese novels appeared in the market. Most of them were written in autobiographical style. This style novel was called for "Shishosetsu ".All the authors, the members of every kinds of literary group, such as Japanese naturalists, Pine Books group members, and aesthetes, wrote many "Shishosetsu" and produced their artificial world. To our surprise, Yu Ta Fu's evaluation of "Shishosetsu " was not so good. He said: "the scale of "Shishosetsu " is very small. It is no useless for me to receive their art." But in fact, he highly praised of a few authors, for example, Katai Tayama, Zenzo Kasai, Naoya Shiga, Jyunichiro Tanizaki, and so on. These listed names were great novelist writing in autobiographical style. But we must pay attentions. "Shishosetsu " had various styles, so we can say Yu DaFu suffered the influence of mixed- "Shishosetsu"-sty\es. Many former researchers had no pay attention on this point. In fact, his selection and receiving of "Shishosetsu " obviously shows the process of the correspondence between subject and object. I think that the analysis of his autobiographical novels and "Shishosetsu " gives us the best clue to solve the mystery how his characteristic novels are performed. So I want to argue on how his novel is performed, with close and comparative reading, in the first & second part. In the final part, I want to argue on the achievement of his novel in Chinese modern literary. |
