Pioneered The Modern Era In The History Of Chinese Philosophy

Since May 4th Movement, Chinese philosophy is facing the problem of modernization. Contemporary philosophers have been trying actively to search into the combining point between Chinese traditional culture and western culture and to merge Chinese philosophy into the world philosophy system. The originators of History of Chinese philosophy are Hu Shi and Feng You-lan who played a key role in the establishment and modernizing of the science of Chinese Philosophy.This paper intends to, by studying and comparing Hu Shi and Feng You-lang's works, show to readers how they originated the science of Chinese philosophy by adopting thoughts, ideology, methods and modes of western philosophy so as to modernize Chinese philosophy by re-interpreting traditional Chinese philosophy. The paper also analysises the problems in the course of development of History of Chinese Philosophy and the different methods used by philosophers when they try to solve the problems, and presents the problems arisen in course of modernization of Chinese philosophy.
