The writing period of the book of "Literature and Critics on Ancient Chinese literature", written by Liu Xie , was a transition period changing from the "Theory of Images" into the "Theory of Artistic Conception". The book was an agglomeration of the "Theory of Images", it summarized all the previous philosophical theories and the practice of literal creation and the scattered theories. In this book , the term "Image" was firstly introduced into the field if artistic aesthetics, thus the denotation and connotation of "images" become a pure conception in artistic aesthetics, this was a symbol of the changing of the "Theory of Images" from a general understanding into a mature system. This system began its journey in the spring and Autumn Period ,the theories in "images" and "conceptions" in "The book of Changes" laid a good foundation for this theory; in the Qin and Han Dynasty, the summary of "The Six Meanings" and "the Six Meanings", the combination of the concept of "images", the discussion of the "image" changed into the category or artistic theory from the category of philosophy; in the Weijin Dynasty and the Southern and Northern Dynasty ,Wan Bin's theory in the relation between images and conceptionsmade the theory to be a mature one .Liu xie summarized all their theories and practice, applied the images and conceptions into the field of artistic aesthetics, founded this theory and made it to be systematic. The book composed of three parts: From "The Original Ways" to "On Literature", there are 5 Passages , form "The Brightened Poems" to "Record of Books", there are 20 Passages, from "The Mysterious Reflections" to "Cheng Qi", there are 24-assages. In this complex system, Liu Xie makes a thorough discussion into the problems in artistic aesthetics, put forward many academic categories, making this theory to be systematic theory. How to construct the images of "appreciation of beauty" and how to convey the concerning Chinese literature". This paper makes a summary into this book from the following aspects: I.Liu Xie's excellent articles on writing , i.e. the summary of the creation of the appreciation of beauty; 2.The formation and the essence of the images of appreciation of the beauty ; 3. The features and the types of images; 4. The perfect combination and the relation of 'mages' and "conception", 5 . The ways of the materialization of images.
