| Jin Yi( 195 0-1959), Chinese modern writer, famous editor. During thirty years of literary career, Jin Yi had made great contributions to Chinese modern literature by leaving more than forty collected works, and more notable, being in charge of more than ten literary periodicals(supplements). But research in Jin Yi had been conspicuously overlooked until now due to his untimely passing away before 1960's. In addition, some characteristic works, for example, short stories like "Night" and "Torrent", were intentionally left out of Jin Yi's anthology by reason of leftist thoughts after the founding of the Republic. All these phenomena were unfair to Jin Yi. His large amount of fictions, for example, could provide us with a very meaningful case in exploring the hard and toiling mental road of Chinese modern intellectuals. In short, a wholly deep research into Jin Yi's works is not only indispensable but also feasible. This thesis, aiming at inquiring into Jin Yi's short stories, mainly includes: through Jin's fiction-writing opinion obviously moulded by trends of 1930's literary thoughts, expound his unique taste of lost love in love stories; through the human tragedies in Jin's fictional world, reveal the existentialism and extremism hidden in his ideas; through the great paradox in Jin's esthetic expression, analyze the contradiction between the writer's esthetic taste and writing guideline. This thesis, although naive owing to the author's shallowness, has some ideas of originality because research in Jin Yi is an arid field in Chinese modern literature. The aim of this paper is to do some basic work dedicated to more deep-going research in Jin Yi. |
