Cognitive linguistics is a newly emerging science which arouses the wide interests of various linguistic fields. It is based on psychological cognation and gives some new explanations to the linguistic problems. This article brings the Prototype Theory of Categorization from cognitive psychology into linguistics to explain some aspects of syntax, lexicology, pragmatics, and semantics. The introduction comments on the importance of Prototype Theory of Categorization and points out that its application in linguistics is an irresistibly new direction; the first part explains two terms of categorization and prototype respectively and introduces their characteristics; the second part lists the applications of the Prototype Theory of Categorization in linguistics; and the conclusion part gives a summary of the whole article. The purpose of this article is not to illustrate that the Prototype Theory of Categorization is a master-key to all the problems in linguistics, because in linguistic science, there are so many problems waiting to be proved by this theory.
