| In this article, it is believed that owing to the history, the positive life style had been a kind of collective unconsciousness hidden behind the literati's mind in Tang Dynasty, and as the most popular works of art at that time, it's natural for legendary novels to express this life style. The deep-rooted life style was closely integrated with the theme, characters and means of expressions. About the theme, the legendary novels included explicitly political and love stories, and implicitly Buddhist novels. By means of the characters, the novelists described the changeable life, for example, the gifted emperor scholar Tang Xuan Zhong stands for an eternal dream and the endless pain at that time; the unfaithful Zhang Sheng embodies the grim reality; and the perfect Liu Yi represents some kind of illusory satisfaction. As for the ways of expression, because the legendary novels have to express the writers' feelings, record the history and make some comments, the novels relevantly are historical, narrative and lyric. |
