"monks" Study

As a masterpiece in Buddhism history, Gaosengzhuan has a great significance for the history of Chinese Buddhism, Chinese culture and the Wei dynasty, the Jin dynasty, the South dynasty and the North dynasty. My thesis has a deep analysis of this masterpiece on the basis of the summarization of its type, edition and the value of historical materials. Through my study, I consider that the diffusion of Buddhism in China include two tendency. Firstly, Buddhists actively cater for Chinese traditional culture in the manner of teaching Christianity, methods of sutra translation and the explanation of tenet to promote and realize the development of Buddhism in China. Secondly, Buddhists politely disclose and conciliate contradictions between Buddhism culture and Chinese traditional culture through Buddhism myths to enhance the authority of Buddhism to develop Buddhism in china. In addition, my thesis analyzes various elements of Buddhists activities and considers that economy is a latent element of Buddhists activities and the imbalance of economic development determines the distribution of Buddhists which help us to understand the development of economy in the Wei dynasty, the Jin dynasty, the South dynasty and the North dynasty.
