This thesis is focused on issues concerning the sememe extensional law of disyllable polysemy nouns in the vocabulary of Chinese Proficiency Test.In chapter one, we gave an introduction of the current status of "iso-step extension" and "metaphor" theories, in the meantime presenting thoughts of our own.In chapter two, we displayed how the analysis was carried out: firstly, we classified the 890 disyllable polysemy nouns according to semanticfield. It was divided into two categories--"Nouns about humans" and"Nouns about objects" . "Nouns about humans" consisted of "forms of address" and "forms of non-address" etc. "Nouns about objects" consisted of "concrete objects" and "abstract objects" etc. Secondly, we further analyzed the sememe extensional status in each group, and figured out the law of sememe extension.In the following chapter, on the basis of much research and analysis, we summed up the main point of the laws and made a summary as follow: From the longitudinal view, we found "from particularity to generality" "from concrete to abstract" , "from partiality(characteristics) to whole " is the most important form of the all: From the horizontal view, we found "iso-step extension" is the most important form.In chapter four, we attempted to look for the reasons that controlled the laws. We found "metaphor is a basic process in language that reflects our perception of the world and our feelings. The metaphors we use reflect our common-sense understanding of our world.In one word, we hope the analysis would be beneficial both to the theory of sememe extensional law of disyllable polysemy nouns and to the Chinese teaching practice.
