| As the study objects, Ding Ling's novels, which include the works of her early years, Yan'an era and the sage The Sun Over The Sang Gan River, are intensively deliberated in this thesis. I am in attempt to explore the common idea of Human Liberation incarnated by different identities in her novels. The idea covers the affirmation and respect about human dignity, values, personality, individuality, needs, rights, emotions, and so on .There are three chapters. The first discusses her concerns of humanity liberation in her early novels. Standing on the position of an awaking human, she depicts a series of intellectual young women by establishing rational and wholesome humanity as the target, trying to investigate human's further spiritual liberty and liberation. ' Ding Ling stoutly say "NO" to defend rational and common humanity when she faces the humanbeing's puzzledom . As a singer for females , she banishes much stipulation which is saddled on to "the weaker sex" by society and history. The second chapter discusses Ding Ling's novels in Yan 'An era which the latent idea of "Human Liberation " could be found . In The Hospital, When I Was At Xia Village, and The Night are representative writings in this period . Ding Ling holds her illuminative ground in nationalistic movement which wants to save the nation from extinction . She pays more attention to probe into human's ultimate significance . The intricate idea of "human liberation" is discussed in antinomy of history and ethic . Ding Ling develops Lu Xun's idea of "making the man like a man " . She renewedly establishes the intrinsic identity of human and the world in the damaged relationship between them. The complexity of land reform shown in The Sun Over The Sang Gan River is discussed in chapter three . On one hand , she not only takes the land reform as a class warfare in which impoverished farmers strive for political rights and economic rights under the leadership of Chinese Communist Party. She also combines both class liberation and human liberation which can be realized in historical situation of that time on the standpoint of "Humankind Liberation" . On the other hand, Ding Ling regards farmers in traditional culture as her observing object. She finds that the farmers badly need to turn over in their soul in the land reform . In order to win the thorough liberation, poor farmers must experience a course from turning over in soul to turning over in body then to turning over in soul again. The farmers throw away dissimilation in humanity and soul through the land reform and start the involution. In sum, Ding Ling regards rational and right "human" as her starting and ultimate motive. There is no "absence of human study" in different class characters in her novels. She is a great humanitarian writer worthy of the name. |
