Kunming Region In The Qing Dynasty Social And Economic Life

The paper discusses mainly on the social economy of Kunming in Qing Dynasty. This paper analyzes social and economic life of Kunming people in Qing Dynasty from produce, allocation, change and consumption. It shows us the basic feature of social and economic life in Kunming area and explores the basic feature of its development.The paper is divided into four parts.The first part states and argues the basic situation of the social economy development of Kunming area in Qing Dynasty. It tells us the course and feature of the rise and decline of Kunming social economy. Generally speaking,in earlier Qing dynasty, for political turbulence and war, the economy in Kunming area was seriously destroyed. In the middle and later Kangxi period, after policies adjust and revalidated the social economy was developed and recovered. In mid-Qing dynasty the social economy made great progress and Kunming people lived in prosperous life. In later Qing Dynasty because of eighteen years war in Xianfeng and Tongzhi period the social economy in Kunming area was destitute and was recovered to some extend until in the middle Guangxu period.The second part states briefly the products of Kunming in Qing Dynasty. Because of superior natural condition Kunming was one of the most abundant area in the whole province in Qing Dynasty. The products in Kunming area included agricultural products, aquatic products, manual products andother kinds, especially abounded in aquatic and agricultural products. These products provided ample material resources for Kunming people.The third part discusses Kunming people' s daily economic life. This part analyzes mainly on the situation of Kunming people' s livehood and consumption. The city and rural residents all enjoyed prosperous life and be well-fed and well-clothed. Their material consumption was ample but frugal.The fourth part argues the the commercial trade of Kunming area in Qing. This part discusses the vicissitudes and features of commercial trade of Kunming area in Qing. As the provincial capital Kunming was the political and commercial center of Yunnan province. The commercial trade in Kunming area was divided into two periods by the war and turbulence during Xianfeng and Tongzhi period. The commercial center also shifted from the out area of southern city to Nanzheng Street in inner city. The merchants and merchants who took up commercial business were from Yunnan province and other provinces. The funds and management scale of merchants and merchant band was richer and larger than kunming local ones.
