Word Order And Function Words

Function word is an extremely important grammatical device, which is second only to sequence in contemporary Chinese and often leads to the changes of sentence sequence. It can be said that sentence relating to function word is an indispensible part in the Chinese sentence sequence study.The present paper bases itself upon 'three plane principle', with a special emphasis on the sentence sequence relating to function word. This paper enploys the theorise and metheds of traditional grammar, desciptive grammar, 'three plane principle' and contemporary western grammar schools. The analysis carries out the principle of linking form and meaning, static and dynamic state and structure and function.The thesis is divided into three chapters:Chapter one studies the relations between fuction word and sentence sequence from preposition: (1) It is accepted that prepositional phrase has four positions in the sentence: as adverbial modifier in the middle or at the beginning of the sentence, as complement after verbs or verb objects, but it has the difference of two positions:as subject and object attribute. At the same time, there is a givern changing relation in preposional phrase, as subject attribute in the middle and adverbial modifier at the beginning of the sentence. (2) Preposition is compactly related with the changes of sentence sequence, it will discuss the changes of sentence sequence by adding preposition. The changes of sentence sequence will have an influence on sentence, it is to discuss from syntactic, semantic, pragmatic.Chapter two studies the relations between fuction word and sentence sequence from conjection: (DIt dicusses the question on relations between conjection and subject.On the one hand,it carries forward the achievements of study, on the other hand, it corrects the deviation in the forward achievements of study, with a special emphasis on the specific characterstics of distinct conjection. (2)In a sentence of two or more clauses,conjection with the former clause can move to the latter clause, the changes of sentence sequence not only meet the needs of pragmatics, but also reflect the cognitive meaning.Chapter three studies the relations between fuction word and sentence sequence from structional auxiliary word: Structional auxiliary word is compactly related with the changes of sentence sequence, it will discuss the changes of sentence sequence by adding structional auxiliary word .The changes will have an influence on sentence, it is to discuss from syntactic, semantic, pragmatic.
