The black muslims are important part of American muslims. For some African-American, Islam which is different from Christianity brought them equal and origin of nation .The Nation of Islam (NOI), found in 1930, is the most famous community in the black muslims. In the beginning of 20~th century, some black thinkers appeared in African-American Islamic Movement. The Moorish Science Temple, found in 1913, were embryonic form of NOI.. Fard and Elija, the leaders of NOI, brought Nationalism to their religion and pull NOI to the climax of African-American Islamic Movement. But in 1960's Pan-Africanism and orthodox Islam made Malcolm, another leader of NOI, change his thought. From then on , NOI had to face to the paradox between separatism and Islamic universalism. It was the paradox that would lead to NOI's separation in 1970's. In 1980's ,the paradox appeared clearly when African-American got their political and spiritual target partly. At last, NOI chose Islamic universalism. Being a group , African-American was admitted by American society. Though NOI is heterodoxy in orthodox muslims'eyes its basic thought originated from Islam, which can not be ignored. For the more, we can see NOI as a peculiar product of Islam and American culture. It is a special role in Islamic history. Study of NOI will help us to know more about the development of Islam in the whole world.
