The research of the interpretation way of the dictionary is always paid attention to by dictionary researchers, but the interpretation way of "you fan zhi zheng" (that is interpret words by "negative word + antonym") less mentioned by researchers and less carried out the special research on it. This text is on the basis of the research achievements that described by predecessors briefly, regards "Shuo wen jie zi" (Shuo wen) and "Modern Chinese Dictionary"(MCD) as research objection and carries out comparative research on this kind of interpretation way.At first, this text limits out all the clauses that exist in "Shuo wen" and "MCD" use the interpretation method of "you fan zhi zheng". Then describes the clauses separately. From these we know that it is an interpretation way by uses "negative word + antonym" as interpretation principle, and belongs to many words interpretation way. The most of interpretation languages are adjectives with passive meaning and fuzzy.The interpretation method of "you fan zhi zheng" has some advantages, such as: simple and convenient, can show the internal links between words and words, reflect the systematic of wards' meaning, announce the morphological feature of words, etc. Because it as same as explain another word with one word, so it has some limitations: the interpretation may cause generally, may present question of explain each other, etc. Corresponding to these, a series of remedy ways adopted in "Shuo wen" and "MCD". So the interpretation type has changed very greatly. It did not use single antonym denying type as main explanation languages but combine with describing languages. But the change of interpretation type did not change the position of this kind of interpretation way in the dictionary. Not only in "Shuo wen" but also in "MCD", it is an important interpretation way.In a word, interpretation method of "you fan zhi zheng" first systematically used in "Shuo wen", then inherited and used in "MCD". As one of important interpretation ways in dictionary, it took its function from the day when it produced. So long as we adopt a series of methods to avoid the limitation while notice and keep its advantages. It will be continually used in the dictionary and promote interpretation accuracy, and it will make the contribution to improve the quality of the dictionary.
