Nowadays, different people hold their different points of view about traditions and creations. In this article I will make Mr. Chen Hongshou the most characteristic painter who is known aboard as an example for analyzing his different elegant and classical painting style, which is different from the former painters.Firstly, he has a talent of making images simple in characters, elegant and classical, good ability of organizing the different elements in pictures, all these above have proved his good understanding and master in traditional Chinese painting. Secondly, by comparing with the painting of Zhou Fang and Li Gonglin, we could know that Chen Hongshou had learned from their paintings a lot, but in his painting he had changed and creatively improved his skills and methods in different way. By the way, when he studied the Li Gonglin's painting, his tried to simulate his painting to Li's at beginning then to make differences and reconstruct the former paintings. By learning from Zhou Fang's painting he was focus on study of verve and emotions in former Chinese painting, and then he formed his elegant and classical style of his painting. All these examples let us know that his is not a painter who is blindly admire those former paintings, but a great painter who is recreating by his individual passions. Thirdly, by analyzing his educational environment, the historical background, life situations and his study of the folk arts I have further expatiated how he finally formed his different elegant and classical style of Chinese painting.At last, by analyzing the forming of the Chen Hongshou's painting style, I have these conclusions below:1. The arts had a stability of itself and historical attraction.2. The inheriting of traditional arts is disapproving of the former and the exploration for the past.3. The creating of arts usually more looks like the reveal of the history.
