On The Evolution Of The Chapter Of Cursive Form And Its Role In The History Of Chinese Characters

This thesis makes an overall study of cursive writing from the aspects of structure evolvement and the significant influence in the history of Chinese Character. It's based on the theory of Character's form and structure, focusing on the brief collections of cursive script in Han Dynasty and Huangxiang's edition Jijiuzhang. More details are introduced as follows.1. Defining "zhangcao script" by making a research of its meaning in literature. Revisions of the previous study are involved in this paper.2. Reviewing the resource of "zhang cursive writing",and classifying the different historical periods, inducing the features of each stage, approaching the motive and regulation of the structure changes by the method of historical comparison.3.Making analysis of the relationship between lichange and kai script,xing script jincao script,making statement of important role which makes in Chinese Character's history.The author argues, zhangcao script originates from the following three: folk writing of ancient lishu, ancient Cursive writing in the Spring and Autumn Annals ,Bafen style of Han Dynasty. It formed in the late Xihan and drove into maturity stage in Xinmang and DongHan. With the authority of calligrapher s beautification, it standardized in Kingdom Wei and Jin. It Changed from the cursive writing style on the bamboo slips to the zhangcao script which was represented in Jijiuzhang. The roles which zhangcao scrip plays in the Chinese Character history during the Kingdom Han and Wei can be summarized as the following:Ancient Curving Writing made the formation of Lishu possible, zhangcao script of Han Dynasty promoted the process of standardization of Lishu. zhangcao script of Han Dynasty established the foundation for the new stokes system of Lishu and greatly effected on the formation of Kaishu and Xingshu. Zhangcao script became an important resource of modern cursive writing. Various writing styles and great simplifications made zhangcao scrip significant in the history of Chinese Character.
