Doctrine Of Locke Entity

Substance category is a very central category in the history of western philosophy. The evolvement history of substance category is a developmental history of western philosophy, especially metaphysics. Substance category is originally introduced by ancient Greek philosophy, Aristotle. In modern history, substance question is one of focal points concerned by modern empiricism and rationalism. To contemporary history, western philosophy is facing the renaissance of ontology. However, Locke's substance theory possessed important position in his philosophy system, laid the ontology foundation of his philosophy. Therefore, studying Locke's substance theory has very important theoretical and realistic significance. The article make up of three sections.The aim of this thesis's first part is mainly to define essential meanings of Locke's substance theory. For what is the common substance, many people have various opinions. Some people believe that the common substance is the special substance. Others acclaim that the common substance is substantial essence. We argue that the common substance is fountain occurred various simple ideas and basis depended various characters, is an above-empirical matter that we only know its existing, but don't know what it is.Second part briefly elucidates and analyzes systematically the inter logic of Locke's substance theory. His theory forms the starting point of many ideological lines afterwards and produces a very important influence on later ages. This article will stress the contradiction between cognoscism and agnosticism in his philosophy. Analyzing thoroughly this contradiction will have great significance for us to understand correctly and evaluate objectively Locke's philosophy and to probe into evolutional inter logic of modern empiricism from materialism to idealism, from cognoscism to agnosticism and sum up experience and lesson of theoretical thought of human cognitive history.
