| Objective: To draw up teaching material about coping skill education by investigating the current situation of the psychological coping ability of the college students in ShanXi Medical University, exploring the factors that influence the coping ability, and evaluating the extent of the coping ability's effect to psychological health. To assess the intervention effect of the coping skill education on the general coping ability (such as individual coping resource , social coping resource , and coping behavior styles ) and the situational coping ability (such as the confidence and anxiety of speech in public ).Methods:1. Investigation: Two hundred and eight(208) freshmen in clinical medical department of Shanxi Medical University participated in the study . To investigate the current situation of the psychological coping ability, to explore the influencing factors on coping styles and the influencing degree of the general coping ability on emotion. Their general coping ability were investigated with psychological scales such as Coping Efficacy Questionnaire,Self Acceptance Questionnaire (SAQ), Social Support Rating Scale (SSRS), Coping Style Questionnaire , Eysenck Personality Questionnaire (EPQ), State–Trait Anxiety Inventory (STAI), and Center for Epidemiologic Studies Depression Scale (CES-D). By using cluster random sampling together with simple random sampling , 71 of 208 were tested about the salivary immune globulin IgA level which objectively reflected the general coping ability with ratio-immune-analysis(RIA) .2. Intervention: With department as a unit , 208 students were divided into intervention group (n=105) and control group (n=103) by cluster random sampling . The coping skill education was given to the students in the intervention group while the control group without any interference.The concrete intervention contents included enhancing individual resource , enriching social resource , and improving coping styles .3. Assessment of intervention effect: After intervention ,the general coping ability of all the subjects was tested again with those psychological scales as same as before intervention , and with the subjective scale compiled by ourselves ; Seventy-one of them participated in the test of the situational coping ability which include questionnaire (Personal Report of Confidence as a Speaker PRCS) and salivary IgA.The intervention effect was evaluated by comparing the scores between the intervention group and the control group.Results:1.
