During The Cultural Revolution Art Of Graphic Design

Study on Culture Revolution beaux-arts phenomenon has long been in the ascendant. This article takes a new angle of view from plane design to systematize and analyze phenomena on propaganda paiting ,book binding ,cigarette labels and matchbox drawing in the special Culture Revolution times.The author of the article is trying to clarify superficies of those phenomena and penetrate their essence.To subtly delineate and hold the specific characteristics of the plane design,this article is aimed at detailedly teasing the art of design on the one hand and is emphasized on looking on the design art phenomena on the other hand.The introduction of this article is mainly about the background of plane design in the Culture Revolution times.The main body is divided to three chapters:The first chapter presents its readers a vivid picture of propaganda painting art in the Culture Revolution times and then respectively analyzes the special phenomena,whose subject matters are either the head portrait of Mao Zedong,or the Worker-Peasant-Soldier Heros,or sopme new things,and makes mention of a few special propaganda forms in the end.The second chapter ,which accounts for the phenomena of book binding and layout art,only analyzes a spot of works of book binding and layout but concentrates on analyzing both the format planning and works of the newspapers and periodicals on the art of Culture Revolution Army.The third chapter of this article is about the phenomena of cigarette labels and matchbox drawing.It gives them an account on cigarette labels image and matchbox drawing model.The research of matchbox drawing design in this chapter is also related with the mentality of technological esthetics.Conclusion:the plane design in the Culture Revolution times is noted for speed,penetration and effeciency, in which the mighty political power offered the most fundamental motivation.The plane design during the period created a chain of unique and recongnized visual arts image,presenting particular cultural inclination and appreciation intrest.As the main form to transform information,it also reflected the striking characheristics of the Culture Revolution times.
