Because of the immense effect of European musical system played in our today's music education, there is a result companying this effect: failure to attach significance to music education which based on mother tongue (Chinese). First, the author gathers information and classifies a kind of native Quyi music (a type of traditional talking-singing music) of Nanjing — Nanjing Baiju through exploring its history, musical performances, musicians, situation of succession from the angle of Ethnomusicology. This thesis also explores the musical feature and cultural value of it. Then, from the disappearance of Nanjing Baiju, the author meditates on today's music education. I explore and analyze the reasons for failure to attach significance to music education which based on mother tongue, what we have lost in our music education, the necessity of advocating multi-cultural music education and how to take on the multi-cultural music education from theory to practice. At last, the author reaches a conclusion: music education should base on culture, music should be treated as a type of culture, and we should understand music in the context of culture. And native music should be taught through the native culture which produces this native music. Our music education must be lead by Hermeneutics, and be build for practice.
