Guided by Marxist methodologies of dialectical materialism and historical materialism and with the basic methods of studying international politics such as qualitative analysis, comparative study, historical analysis, induction and deduction, the dissertation is trying to provide a comprehensive description and a developmental critique of Social Darwinism's impact on American overseas expansion and related foreign policies from the late nineteenth century to the early twentieth century through introducing the theoretical origin and essential content of Social Darwinism and analyzing its popularity and Americanization in the United States. |
