The piano music has lasted for nearly three hundred years in the world; and, it' s been in Yanbian for about one hundred years as well. This thesis systematically addresses how the piano music came into Yanbian and the marks on the trace of its development. This thesis also analyzes the phases of the piano music development in Yanbian starting from the 19th century until now, basing on the historical background of Yanbian and synthesizing the data that' s been possibly found. Meanwhile, it studies and explores the contribution of the piano music to the progression and popularization of music in entire Yanbian area.In 1896, Roman Catholicism was brought into Yanbian. Along with it were some talented pianists who started the piano lessons in the churches, which provided good opportunities for many people to learn to play the piano. In 1903, Christianity started to spread in Yanbian. Starting from the churches, the piano music started to gradually expand, to develop, and to enlarge to today' s scope.Unfortunately, no formal studies on the history of the piano music development in Yanbian have been conducted. It will be of great significance for the future studies, as well as for the piano music development in Yanbian, to understand the history realistically and to learn from the past.In order to attest the pulse of the piano music in Yanbian, interviews to some well-known music educators and composers have been conducted, and some useful photos and pictures about the pianos that were used in Yanbian in the past have been collected for readers to understand the changes in the piano music development.This thesis addresses the topic from the following perspectives.
