| When the Qing Army went through Shanhai Pass, the Manchu began to rule the Han People living in the wide area of Central China. The Qing Court established Green Standard armies as a tool to strengthen its rule. Based on the previous research findings, this paper focuses on provincial commanders and commanders-in-chief in Green Standard armies in the time of Shunzhi and Kangxi, and elaborates on the penetration of Eight Banner into Green Standard armies and the significance of penetration for rule consolidation in the early Qing Dynasty. This paper constitutes three parts.The first part is Introduction which briefs the previous research trends and findings in this field as well as the main questions this paper discusses.The second part is made up of four chapters. The first two chapters are devoted to relevant issues of provincial commanders and commanders-in-chief in Green Standard armies such as establishment, limits, distribution of authority and control of the central government. Chapter III elaborates on the penetration of Eight Banner into Green Standard armies.
