"Taigu Yiyin", an ancient Qin song composed by Xie Lin in Ming Dynasty, is the earliest songbook of the Qin music. It contains all the traditional exquisites of Qin song since Tang and Song dynasties in its form, tune, theme, words and cllation of tunes and so on.After Xie's Taigu Yiyin, there are about fifty songbooks, 12 monographs on Qin song and 38 collecting some Qin songs, relating to Xie's book to some extent. They make up more than 30 percent of all songbooks of ancient Qin music composed from Ming and Qing dynasties and Republic of China (1912-1949).Taigu Yiyin has not only inherited all traditions of Qin song of its previous dynasties, but also improved its further development, taking an important role of transitive in the history of Qin song.By studying carefully its history and literatures concerned and collating its ancient books, the paper is mainly focused on the songbook of Taigu Yiyin itself and its origin and development so as to explore its role and status in the historical development of Qin song.
