Populism And 20th Century Chinese Literature

As an important social trend of thought in the 20st's China , especially attaching itself to Marxist over a long period of time , The Populism was absorbed and utilized by Zhang Taiyan,Sun Yat-sen,Li Dazhao,Liang Shuming,Mao Zedong and New leftists and brought great impaction on the 20st's China society live . However, it was neglected by researchers because its formal name was usually not used in China and displaced by"the populace""the public""workers and peasants". Like a barometer of the 20st, the 20st's Chinese literature recorded the trend of the Populism in china naturally. However, it was a great regret because there was no a systematic and complete research article about the Populism in modern Chinese literature up to now. Therefore, in my opinion, it was very necessary to comb and examine the trend of the Populism in China from the angles of literature. On the basis of widely collecting data, this thesis will adopt the macro-view on this hoping to make an overall and impartial and novel evaluation.There are four chapters:Chapter I, A brief account on the Populism. Russia as the typical model of the Populism depended on its special history background and theories sources, among of them, the view on the common people from Rousseau in France and the agency of special village ( mir) were key factors. Evaluated in roughly, the intellectual accepting the Populism was a very widespread world phenomenon. The Populism was not only in vogue in Russia once time, but also arose in many countries in the world from east to west during their modernization. Tough the forms of the Populism are different because of different history backgrounds and national conditions, they still contain common characters with each other.Chapter II, The Populism trend and its evolution in China. Primarily ,there are two sources of the derivation of the Populism in china: One is from the campaign of"going to village"advocated and sponsored by the Russian intellectuals in 19 century , another is from Chinese own culture resources. In Chinese modern history, the representatives who had the Populism tendency were Sun Yat-sen and Zhang Taiyan, Sun Yat-sen is a Chinese -foreign type, but Zhang Taiyan is an ancient and modern type. In the period of May 4th Movement, the typical representative who had the Populism was Li Dazhao, a member of the Communist Party in early days.
