Study. Longlin Gelao And Use Of Native Types

The Gelao language is one of the endangered languages. Studying the using type of this language will help us to know about and treat this kind of languages correctly. It also can provide some information for our new nationalities' policy. It is very important for the development of not only the Gelao but also other nationalities whether the Gelao people can treat their mother tongue and the other nationalities around the Gelao can treat the Gelao language correctly.In addition, the mother tongue using types of the Gelao nationality can provide some materials for studying on language contacting. The investigation into the mother tongue using types of some nationality and its relationships with the other languages which it is also using can be the base of the studying on language contacting. In Longlin County, there are five nationalities, Han , Zhuang, Miao, Yi and Gelao. The Gelao's population is the smallest. Many Gelao people have lost their mother tongue partly while using other nationalities' languages or completely. What about the Gelao language at present, whether it affects on other nationalities' languages, how the effect is, etc, all of them are what the language contacting needs to study.This paper is based on the field investigation. The ways of investigating are observation, questionnaire and interview. They make theinvestigation comprehensive, concrete and reliable. During the studying, the author takes the methods of statistics, classification and contrast. The Access digital system makes the work more convenient. The statistics, the first-hand information, supports the author's opinion. According to the different characteristics of the Gelao people using their mother tongue, the author classifies the Gelao language into three types and analyzes them separately. After contrasting the three types, the author has got their differences and similarities and pointed out that they are the extinct periods of the Gelao language.Here are the conclusions,First, the Gelao peoples are similar on language ability, languages choosing and language attitudes, but there are differences on people's densities, the effects on the nationalities around them using languages and the different situations of their mother tongue which reflect the Gelao's disappearing steps, basic preservation — withering little by little — keeping only among the old people.Second, the Gelao language of the basic preservation type keeps stable at present but it is also on the edge of extinction.Here are the reasons,Firstly, the national self-consciousness; secondly, the religion; thirdly, the politics; fourthly, the economy; fifthly, language prestige; sixthly, the population; seventhly, the dialect differences; eighthly,without written language.Here are the measures,First, taking the Gelao language as an important project to study; second, spreading the Gelao's culture to grow their self-pride; third, trying to do some jobs about language renaissance.
