Moment in Peking is the most famous English novel created by Lin Yutang. Among all the Chinese versions of this novel, nowadays there are only two can be found in the mainland of China. One of them is translated by Zhang Zhenyu and the other by Yu Fei. Although these two Chinese versions are translated from the same English novel, they have entirely different communication effects: Zhang's version is welcomed by all the big book stores and is reprinted again and again, but Yu's version can seldom be found in nowadays book shops.In order to dig out the reasons hidden behind the different communication effects of the two versions, the thesis applies the communication studies' "7W" model to the communication process of Zhang's and Yu's versions.Through comparison and analysis of the two versions, the thesis comes to the conclusion that the creation, communication and reception of the translated text is a very complex process, in which there are seven basic elements involved — communication subject, communication channel, communication object, communication content, communication situation and communication purpose. The seven basic elements of this process is an inseparable entirety, and the communication effect of the translation is determined by all the other six elements. The translated text is not the only element that determines the communication effect of the translation, which means good translation may not end up with a good communication effect. To make sure that a translated text of higher quality can get a better communication effect, you must take all the communication elements into your consideration.
