This thesis focuses on adjectives that function as adverbial modifier in the sentence. The author analyses adjective in the syntactic structure of Ns+A+VP+(No) with Transformational Analysis, and gets a conclusion: adjective as adverbial modifier expresses a kind of transitory state that accompanies with action happening.Analysis includes the following parts: 1. The restriction of adjective in the adverbial place. 2.The type of adjective in the adverbial place of the Ns+A+VP+(No) structure. These adjectives includes a few of one-syllable(character) attributive adjectives, a lot of two-syllable attributive adjectives, few of two-syllable descriptive adjectives, and a great deal of duplicate descriptive adjectives. 3.The relationship of adverbial adjective and predicate verb. They have relation in syntactic meaning or both in syntactic and semantic meaning. The author points out that small part of adverbial adjectives expressing result state move from the place of object's attribute, because they have semantic relationship with predicate verb. This thesis demonstrates the foundational status of semantic meaning and the compulsive role of syntax in the usage of language.
