Banqiao Artistic Practice And Aesthetic Thinking Characteristics

Zheng Banqiao, the most important member of "Eight Eccentrics of Yangzhou", which was a group of eight Chinese painters and poets in Qing dynasty (1644 A.D. to 1912 A.D.), devoted his whole life into the reified artistic activities. As a famous litterateur, calligraphist and painter, Zheng did not systematically created literature on aesthetics, instead, his aesthetics-related thoughts were found in variety of his works of art.In this paper, Zheng Banqiao's works of art were investigated in an aesthetic perspective. By unscrambling his works and understanding the profound aesthetic connotation behind his "wild eccentricity" and "legend", the research work on Zheng was deepened.This paper consists of three sections, which are expounded consecutively and systematically.Zheng's background was stated in the first section. His pathetic and poor childhood built his strong mind and sensitive feelings. At the same time, Zheng Banqiao's whole life was during the last phase of the feudalistic society(under the reign of Kangxi Emperor and Qianlong Emperor). All these together caused Zheng Banqiao's conflicting personality, however, the thought of Confucianism was still to impenetrates his whole life at most , zhengbanqiao sublimates in the self-contradict and gets his special art achievement.Then zhengbanqiao's art achievement is analyzed from different angle(the poem's contents ,the handwriting's characteristics,the painting's choosing, the signet's style).In the whole art categorythe every kind of art for coming seeing, zhengbanqiao's arts are not outstanding, but combination the times he lives , every kind of his arts has the prosperous vitality and positive meaning.Finally, We summarize the following four literature esthetics points of zhengbanqiao by a deeply analysis of his art practice and related postscripts. They are:1) founding strong consciousness from ancientry to modern times with great efforts,then represent strong ;2) sharp-cut and larruping haracteristics;3) profound thought of bringing gifts tolaboring demos;4) The great fighting spirit, This kind of fight spirit broke the classicality harmonious characteristics, and inclined to the modern sublime self-contradict.
