Miyake Design Thinking Research

ISSEY MIYAKE was honored as "the greatest fashion creator" by the president of the Musée des Arts décoratifs of Paris. His works are huge in quantity and amazing in span. There are already a large number of researches on him, such as on his contribution to the eastern culture of loose dress, on his alteration and innovation in fabric, and on his grasp of the modern clothing. This thesis is to discuss the designer from a different angle of view, it is to analyze Issey Miyake's masterpieces in his different phases, and emphasize on his important ideas in design: on his unique Japanese aesthetic consciousness "MA" which makes his design widely different from the western styles; on his discovering and recreating of the traditional Japanese fabrics, and bringing of the ancient materials into rebirth; on his minute examination in the origin of the fashion design, based on which he was inspired with the idea of "a piece of cloth", which broke the design routines; on his active utilizing of the new technology which brings amusements and breakthroughs to his designs; and on his open-minded character and team-work spirit which keep he sensitive to his age. It is conceivable that his formidable creativity originates from his marvelous characteristics.
