Form is a crucial concept of western philosophy and aesthetics. This essay category the western forms into interior and exterior forms. The former term refers to a pure theory of structure and formalism that has the meaning of superorganic ontology. The latter is another theory of structure and formalism but closed related and abstracted from practice which has the significance of methodology. Generally speaking, these two different forms are more incompatible against to each other in the other art fields apart from music.Music differs from painting and sculptures because of its existing characteristic of space, and distinguishes from poetry for its not-concept thinking. So the exterior form of music has some similarities with the interior, which could lead to the formality and abstractness comparing with the other arts.The different level of interior and exterior forms at the different times and the infiltration to each other at the same time are the original impulse of the music development. Furthermore, it also displays the western cultural characteristics on technology and duality.
